Donation based YOGA Community Class – Supporting Nicky and her team’s “Race the Sun” Challenge in aid of Action Medical Research

Relax and Renew A General Restorative Yoga Practice: The Antidote to Stress

The antidote to stress is relaxation. To relax is to rest deeply. This is different from sleep. Deep states of sleep include periods of dreaming, which increase muscular tension, as well as other physiological signs of tension. Relaxation is a state in which there is no movement, no effort, and the brain is quiet. Restorative yoga facilitates deep relaxation and helps relieve the effects of chronic stress in several ways: props provide a completely supportive environment, the spine is moved in all directions, inverted poses reverse the effects of gravity (dramatically altering hormone levels thus reducing brain arousal, blood pressure and fluid retention), stimulates and soothes the organs and balances energy so the practitioner is neither overstimulated nor depleted. This series of restorative poses is designed to create balance and re-set your nervous system.

A note from Nicky

Helen, Bella, Lucie, Sally, Nicky, and Lindsey working as one team (HelsBels, The May Queens and It’s all downhill from here) took on ‘Race the Sun’ Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) for children’s charity Action Medical Research. At the weekend, we set off at sunrise to bike, hike and paddle around a challenging course in a race against the sun.

We raced in aid of children’s charity, Action Medical Research. They have spent over 70 years funding vital research to help defeat the diseases that devastate the lives of sick and disabled babies, children, and young people.

By supporting our team, you will be helping to find ways to reduce premature birth, to support children facing a lifetime of challenges caused by disabilities, and to develop cutting-edge therapies for rare and incurable diseases.

We all ‘Thank you so much’ for your support!
